I intend to build another new computer when AMD releases their new line whenever that may be and need just about everything but RAM. I was perusing Newegg and saw a case I liked and it combos with a psu to make the psu free. So, if I can get this PSU for free, is it going to do me good?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171018It has the 120mm fan which is nice, and, although I'm still on the fence about it, multiple 12v rails, and an adequate maximum power. But I've never used a COOLER MASTER and also don't want to stick with the psu that comes with the case (I learned my lesson last time; so much for OCing). Any and all help/opinions are appreciated.Edit: What does it mean to be modular in regard to PSUs?EDIT 2: Ok, We have an xclio Goodpower 500w psu that we were going to put in another computer, but I could take it if I get the other one for free, but I'm not sure which I would want. Opinions?Any thoughts - Cooler Master PSU
i had a bad experience with cooler master psu. i had the 430 watt version and it was unbelievably loud, but i dont know if that is true for the 500w version. Although the 430 was enough to power my 8800gts.modular cabling means that the cables can be removed from the back of the psu, they are good because you can remove the wires that you dont want to useAny thoughts - Cooler Master PSU
Hmm, noise isn't really an issue to me. I very rarely leave the pc on while I sleep and when doing something on the comp, surround sound gets pumping.
the IT guy who does all the networking at my parents business says cooler master makes very good power supplies
Cooler Master's power supplies aren't particularly great, but they are decent I suppose.Their cases are nice though. :)
Any chance someone could give me a more detailed answer? As far as I can tell, CM is ok-good, but the cons are non-modular and loud. But does it bother me that much sinec it's free? would it bother you?
Bump with edit in regard to this
Definitely a good power supply. I often recommend that XCLIO Goodpower 500W to budget builders, and it's of pretty good quality. Here's a review on it.http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/829/1/page_1_introduction/index.htmlNote that while it technically has two PCI-e connectors, one is really a molex to 6-pin adapter (takes two of the five 4-pin molex connectors that the PSU has..).
