Help on upgrading (need some opinions)

I currently have this:http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2945301%26CatId=2019http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1862753%26CatId=1997http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=633531%26CatId=10781 Gb of PC3200nvidia 6600 GT 256 mbI am thing I need to upgrade my card cause the 6600 is starting to show its age and struggling with some games that I want to max out (oblivion, stalker, CnC 3, etc.). Here is what I'm thinking I should buy:7900 GS XXX:http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2707975%26CatId=1560Then once I get some more money:An extra gig of RAM:http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1071020%26Sku=ULT31664And a better PSU cause the one I have now is terrible:http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1389575%26CatId=1078Would my system be able to max out most games out now if I got that stuff? Do you think its a good deal %26 decision? Do I really need the power supply right away or can I use the one I have now for a bit longer (till I get some more money)? So what are your opinions and advice, will I have a good PC?Thanks in advance :)Help on upgrading (need some opinions)
Well Oblivion and Stalker are very poorly optimized too begin with. And CnC 3 you should be able to play on high at the very least. First are you running Vista? If you are that could beyour problem/problems.2nd Getting a better PSU you will see a difference if your Pc isnt getting the power it needs. I remember one time when I went from a 300 watt to 350 watt not changing nothing else I seen a 100% difference. Also go for a 450 watt psu or higher.3rd getting 1gb more ram will help overall with the loading pauses but not like a night and day difference change. If you planing on getting a new graphics cardyou might as well get a 8600 or 8800 series card to be more future proof.Help on upgrading (need some opinions)
I am on xp and plan to stay here for a while (until I build a totally new comp.) I don't have/want to spend a lot of money so the 8800 is not an option, the 8600 is pointless because, like I said I won't be going to vista for a while. I am experience poor performance because of the resolution (1440x900) I'm playing at. I was getting good fps on my old monitor (which was at 1024x768) but since I got a new one my card can't keep up. I want a new PSU cause the one I have now gets hot and loud, and I'm not sure if its good enough to power the 7900 (25 amps on the 12 volt rails???)
First of all, the power supply you chose out is actually lower quality than the one you already have.It may be 430Ws, but it only has 18 amps on the 12V rail compared to your PowerUp's 25 amps on the 12V rail.Next, the 7900GS works fine on a 300W power supply with around 20 amps although you'd have to have a fairly basic system (one hard drive, one optical drive, etc) so the one you already have is enough. Finally, your upgrades look good but you don't need the new power supply. Maybe bump the card up to a 7950GT or so.
Well the cheapest 7950 I can find is this one:http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2918356%26CatId=1560How much better would it be than the 7900? Would it be worth the extra cash? Also can you recommend me a good PSU (from tigerdirect.ca please)? One that is quiet, runs cool, is inexpensive, and good quality. Like I said I just don't like the one I have now.
I see.. anyways I would strongly suggest ordering from DirectCanada. Much cheaper than TigerDirect and free shipping on orders over $300 (although I don't think you want to spend $300?)Try FSP Group's 450W, I have it myself. :)http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=11730AC2682Seems like higher-end cards aren't so cheap in Canada, so just stick with the 7900GS or go with an X1950Prohttp://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=13630BD0249^ Comes with an Accelero X2 third-party cooler. :)
Go for that 7900 gs xxx it has higher clock speeds on both the Gpu and memory. Even thou the 7950 has 4 more pixil pipe lines those xfx's xxx versions are speed demons. Like the 7600 gt xxx vs the 7800 gt the 7600's sheer clock speeds outperformed the standard7800 by 10 or so % fasterThe 7950 is Gpu:565, Memory:1430The 7900 gs xxx is Gpu: 600, Memory: 1630
Also after looking at the spec a bit more the 7950 GT only has 4 more pixel pipelines than the 7900GS XXX, every other category shows the 7900 is better (core clock, memory clock, etc.) Do you really think 4 more pixel pipelines is worth $75 more????

The 7950GT's extra pipelines easily make it superior to the 7900GS. I'd go for the X1950Pro though.. or just stick with the 7900GS.The 7600GT outperformed the 7800GS because the 7800 used a more outdated core, just because the 7600GT had higher clock speeds wasn't everything.

lol I didn't see you posted that. Thanks again for all the help everyone :D
