Router Question

Well, my lil bro is looking to get xbox live, and so we need a router with 3+ ports out ( 2 pcs and the xbox) and he was looking at the bargin routers. Will a ?0 router result in lag/slowdown in the connection. P.S. i want to know about the lag in reference as to how it would affect the PCs, cause theyre used for gaming aswell
