Jonesing... I need a fix (what I should upgrade)

Hello everyone, I'm looking for an opinion for an upgrade for my 3 yr old computer. I understand now is not the best time to upgrade, and I will be building a quad core (going all out, planning about $2000 more or less)  shortly after the July 22nd price drop. But I'm seriously itching here people. I am willing to drop down about $200 (cdn) to hold me down 'till August/September. Here are my specs:
-p4 2.8c 800FSB -Asus P4p800 Deluxe -1gb pc2700 ddr ram -Geforce 6600gt -36gb raptor  -HD120gb sata HD -450w generic PSU
I have a Zalman 7000a-Cu on my processor so I keep it OC'ed to 3.34MHz. I am an average gamer and I've been playing most of the newer games (Supreme Commander with dual mon, C%26C3, Battlefield 2142, Oblivion, Company of Heroes, etc etc) on low, but it doesn't bother me at all as long as it's in 1280x1024 and doesn't stutter. Currently running XP sp2, but I've ran Vista and it was fine, it's just not time for it yet.
My personal opinion is to either ditch the pc2700 ram and get myself 4 x 512 ddr400. Or maybe a 7600gs/x1650 pro (7600gt AGP is rare as hell to find, but due to bottle-necking, it's probably not worth it). Maybe a Zalman VF700-Cu so then i could OC my 6600gt? What would give me the highest performance boost for the price?

Any comments are welcomed. Thanks for your time.Jonesing... I need a fix (what I should upgrade)
I would get the RAM... but I really think you are wasting your time. August isn't that far away. You would be better off breaking down and getting an xbox 360 or something to hold you over than throwing away $200.

How about a new monitor / peripherals instead? something that you can use with your new rig in August.Jonesing... I need a fix (what I should upgrade)
I agree with the guy above me minus the fact that he said RAM. He shouldn't have said anything. For any significant increase in well, anything, you are gonna need a complete overhaul and since you are already planning on doing that, just wait. Getting 2 GB of ram in XP is rediculous. It is totally unnecessary in every way as XP won't even use 1.5 GB and you will see zero performance boost from 1 GB to 2 GB in any game (look at all the Performance reviews GS does...you might get 1 FPS more). Don't upgrade anything. My opinion, go to the library, look up Jeffrey Deaver, check out a dozen of his books, enjoy, and before you know it, it is time to upgrade and you have $150-$200 more to buy heroin or whatever gets you off
In my own defence HD xxx Videos ran a little smoother when I went from 1 gig to 2 gig in my p4 :)

XP before SP1 maybe? That aside, I agree - picking up some peripherals would be a great way to burn some cash and feel better about yourself. New speakers, keyboard, and mouse should all about do it, and help keep you happy for at least a month.
I've already picked up all the periphrals that I want. Nothing impressive but there's nothing out there that I want more than what I already have (2x 19'' Widescreen, DiNovo, Revolution, G5, z2300, etc.). A lot of those were purchased recently.
I will still be using this computer from time to time after I built the new computer, probrobly for some light gaming action for friends that come over. But i already have monitors and stuff for that.
Other suggestions welcomed. And thanks for replying.
Pick up a Saitek X52-Pro or Logitech G25 then. Nothing wrong with having a nice stick/throttle combo or a very classy racing wheel.Or more realistically, how about some nice case lighting, fan controllers, card readers, or SATA DVD RW drives? You know, things that will carry over to your next rig and won't be outdated for a long time.

[/QUOTE] A 3rd monitor is just too much screen for me. Unless I was to get an HDTV, but that's a plan for a few months later.
