Go with a good AM2 mobo for AMD Phenom X2's and get like a 3600+ - 5200+ for now... then unload money on a Phenom!amd athlonx2 (2.4) or core duo 2 (2.13)
The E6400/E6420 is better than the X2 4600+
Do not go with AM2, C2D are much better and quad core will still beat AMD.

never mind that previous post i just looked it up.

Yea its supposed to have an L3 cache and will be the first NATIVE quad cause C2D quads are just two craptastic cpus in one
And its socket AM2? I might get one next year then.

The E6600, E6700, and X6800 are hardly craptastic.. hell they outperform every single processor that AMD offers currently.
When the phenom X4's come out they will be :P
Even if the Phenom X4 processors outperform the Core 2 Quads / Extremes, Intel will simply reply with Penryn...So AMD will only have the performance lead for a few months..
When the phenom X4's come out they will be :P
right on.

I dont think the FX phenoms come out till 08 the X4s come out in like october and the x2's(what im getting) come in december or somthing like that. Idk about penryn tho never read about or heard anything on it.
From early speculations..Barcelona Quad-cores (Phenom X4) scored about 16000-17000 on CPUMark.Penryn Quad-core scored about 25000-26000.

''From early speculations..'' yea its too early to say. I still am getting AMD because I have had a few intel chips and just had too many problems with them too many bad experiances.
Past bad experiences don't mean anything. My old Pentium 4 2.4GHz wasn't that great, but it still got the job done.

AMD has done no benching, current boards and chips are pretty buggy, so even if legit benchmarks are done they are not close to retail performance.Let's just wait a couple more months and see. I think the Penryn NDA expires on July 15th.
BTW- Penryn is nothing special, just 2 45nm die on a single package, they are nothing more then slightly faster C2Qs with more L2. We will soon know if a 3ghz Phenom X4 is better or worse then a 4ghz Yorkfield.

well im going to go with X4 over Penryn simply because thats what my MoBo will support.
