What would happen if I put DDR2 RAM into a DDR1 slot?

Topic, thanks. :)What would happen if I put DDR2 RAM into a DDR1 slot?
It wouldn't fit, so it's impossible.DDR2 = 240-pinsDDR = 184-pinsWhat would happen if I put DDR2 RAM into a DDR1 slot?
It wouldn't fit, so it's impossible.DDR2 = 240-pinsDDR = 184-pins
Oh, that's a shame. :x

It wouldn't work.
It wouldn't work.
Hey, we could still force the sticks in, just for kicks.

It wouldn't work.
Hey, we could still force the sticks in, just for kicks.
it sure is fun to break motherboards, and maybe break your CPU while you're at it

Poster could pull out the extra pins and see if it works.
Poster could pull out the extra pins and see if it works.
Actually the problem is not the pins per se, but rather the way the DIMMs are keyed (deliberatly different so that people not try this sort of stunts).
First, the module will slow down to the speed of DDR-400. Then it'll scratch its head, realize that something's wrong, and give you the finger. Then it will die and haunt your house with the random smell of BBQ chicken and s'mores. So don't put DDR2 into a DDR1 slot. I'd imagine the random BBQ chicken and s'mores would get annoying pretty darn fast. *ends lame attempt to be funny*

They want you to buy new of everything in order to make money, pounds, yen or whatever.
