Hey, my friend has a modest system right now, an amd 64 3000+, 2 gb ddr ram and a 7600 GT 256.And he wants to upgrade for cnc 3, because we play that together over lan, and he cant afford that much, so hes wondering if an 7950 GT 512 g card or a ASRock 4CoreDual-VSTA motherboard, with room for his ddr ram, and room for a future ddr 2 ram upgrade, and with that motherboard a Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13 GHz / 1066 MHz, and then he would put his ddr ram and his current 7600 GT over in.So which of those would give him the best boost in performance??? the single 7950 GT 512 card trown in with the modest cpu amd 3000+ 64 or the new motherboard and the new cpu!!!
The new GPU would be faster but hey if he is looking to upgrade his CPU and motherboard..I would get a E4300, and a 650i (which is goin for $55 bucks at newegg) and 2gb's of ram. That would come in at $300 of New Memory, Motherboard and CPU.And for a GPU upgrade get a 8800gts 320mb over at newegg for $260 dollars after rebate.Friend upgrade
Go for the new motherboard and new cpu. The 7950GT isn't much of a boost from the 7600GT... Tell him to get the CPU and Mobo and to save up for a geforce 8800 when he can.
Thx guys for the answers. Have showed him what you guys wrote. But hes saying that he would rather upgrade with a 7950 GT 512 because he knows how to install it, and he points out something about a Tomb Raider game where his 7600 GT wasnt enough to run something called next gen graphics, and that he needed a g card from 7800 and above. So whats that all about? Why does a single game require that huge graphics card?

Just found out that the motherboard he was talking about buying dosnt support pci express 16 x as it says, but only 4 x. So anybody know any other good motherboards that support 16 pci express and can use ddr and ddr 2 ram?
Their are none all motherboards that support bolth types or ram have pcie x4 even if they dont say it your friend will need to get new ram, new cpu, and a new motehrboard.
New CPU. I'm sure my 7950gt would come to its knees with CnC3.
CNC 3 isnt that demanding I have a Sempron 3300+1.5 gb ram and a 7600gs and can play it maxed @ 1024x768 And the min system requirements for CNC3 is 2ghz cpu512 ram and a geforce 4 ti so hes good foe awhile

Heck, my system is starting to show its age (thats why I'm trolling around here) but I havent run into a game yet that I havent been able to play on at least medium settings. So I guess I'm not sure why your friend feels he needs to upgrade for CnC3.
